Going to a Race at Darlington Raceway
General Comments: Darlington
Raceway is a grand old track with a layout which provides some really good racing
action. Unfortunately, good seats are limited. Still, if you want to watch a
race in a historic setting with great atmosphere, you'll enjoy a Darlington race.
Date and Race Attended: 3/21/99

Seats: Wallace Grandstand - Row
11 (view from there)
I paid $75 each for these tickets, because I was too
cheap to go for for the $105 tower tickets. I wouldn't go for anything less than a
tower seat (preferably the turn four tower) now. From the Wallace Grandstand, I
could only see action in the turns. The backstretch was hidden by the infield, and
the cars run along the wall in the front stretch, so you can barely see their roofs.
The upside is the great view of the pits.
What You Need to Know:
Coolers are allowed, but be mindful of the limited
space around your seat. A big cooler equals cramped legs.
The metal chair-like seats are comfortable for an
average-size person, but bigger guys like me will be rubbing against their neighbors.
Parking is average to above-average. Signs along
the roads guide you according to where your seats are located. We arrived about four
hours before the race, and walked no more than a half mile to our seats. It took us
about two hours after the race to get on the road.
