turn 1
Similar to picture at the left, but with more of the front stretch Near turn 1 looking back towards the start/finish line, and the exit of pit road

The track is very clean, and access seems good.

1999 was my first year to Fontana and I had the luxury staying with friends about 45 minutes from the track who knew the area.

2000 plans are made, and I got rooms very easily about 10 miles from the track in Ontario. There is suppose to be a huge shopping mall in Ontario, if that is your thing to do afterwards.

Traffic in 1999 wasn’t bad, but we were at the track by 7:00 a.m. As all NASCAR fans know, you get there early to relax, enjoy the atmosphere, and go racing.

There is a rail system to the track from LA and other cities from a distance. The station is on the backside of the track, and I don’t know how crowded it gets afterwards, but I would imagine it gets crowded.

Getting out afterwards I have heard good and bad, but we stayed for a few more hours before leaving. There was traffic, but we kept moving. Some of the onramps to the freeways were closed around the track afterwards, (this is California’s thinking for traffic control).

All of the souvenir trailers are placed outside of the track, and the whole facility is very clean, and paved, including the parking lots. Typical with all speedway tracks, viewing the backstretch is difficult if you’re not in rows above 20 or so. California Speedway is supposedly removing the seating above the garages to allow better viewing for the fans. As for things to do in Southern California, it really is endless (from Disneyland, to tours of movie studios, and the beaches).
