Going to a Race at Michigan Speedway
see also: pictures from Michigan, other track reviews
I've attended at least one race a year since 1995.
Michigan Speedway offers excellent views from almost every
seat over row 20. The problem is, the races sell out every year, so new buyers are
sometimes left out to dry.
A great (and cheap) alternative is to sit in the infield. For
around 35 dollars, you can bring a lawn chair and sit along the infield fence. Radio
scanners help A LOT with sitting in the infield!! The infield tunnel is on the
frontstretch, just at the beginning of turn one.
There are no cooler size rules for the infield. (great if you
have a family or other large group)
Weekend camping is also available in the infield (125 dollars
per site 18X40 + 80 dollars per person for the full weekend) Winston provides the
"Winston Pit Stop" for live entertainment in the evenings for infield patrons.

Parking is free in the gigantic Michigan Speedway owned lot, but traffic is a concern.
Many races have started with the grandstands 3/4 full due to the traffic problems. It is
imperative that you arrive at least 3 hours before the race begins.
Seats in the main grandstand tower have plenty of legroom. In some of the newer towers in
turns 1 and 4, the seats are not as comfortable. Unfortunately, those towers are usually
where new buyers can get tickets.
Coolers are allowed, and beer is also sold on grounds.
Brooklyn is a small city with limited options for eating (fast food mostly) ... Jackson,
Michigan is about a half hour away (in clear traffic), and has many resturants to choose
from. |
