Plan on long days. I thoroughly enjoyed my
first night race, but the RACEDAY atmosphere wasnt there. Normally I wake up on
raceday, and there is that energy that has been building up from practices and qualifying.
At Richmond, I was there by 9 am and after 2nd
round qualifying and happy hour, there was a 3.5-hour break before the race. The drivers
and teams need it, but it makes for a long day.
There was some small fast food restaurants
across the street, and I had fun meeting other local fans in the parking lot. They
couldnt believe I was from California, and went back east just for NASCAR races. Yes
there are a few true fans out here!!!!
Traffic was great on Thursday and Friday, but
I was there early. On Saturday, RACEDAY, I got lucky with my parking place, and was out of
the lot, and at my motel 20 minutes after the victory lap!!!! My seats were at the end of
the front stretch, and around row 20. I could see most of the track, but again parts of
the backstretch were obstructed.
