Going to a Race at Talladega Superspeedway

I have been to three Talladega races and one qualifying session, all were very enjoyable.  The superspeedway is very easy to get to and is located right off the interstate.  As you exit the interstate, you turn onto Speedway Boulevard which turns into a one way road on race day.  Unless you use someone's yard for parking it is free.  Some people park on the side of the road, but I park next to the track because it is a lot less walking and you can still make it out pretty quick.  Getting parked can be a little bit confusing because there are so many places to turn in the parking lot (I say parking lot, but it is just grass and gravel).

There is hardly any line to wait in when they tear your ticket.  Walking to your seat is pretty crowded though.  The best places to sit are around the start/finish line because you can see all of the pits.  I have also heard you can see almost all of the track on the back straightaway.

The best time to go to the bathroom or get food would be right after the beginning of the race or right before it ends. Don't go during cautions!  The best food I have ate there are the Steak n Cheese sandwiches or the chicken fingers in fries basket.  Both of these run about 4 to 6 dollars, not including the drinks that are about 2 to 3 dollars depending on the size.

It is best to leave the race right after it ends because most people stay longer and there isn't so much traffic.  It is ten dollars to go to qualifying and stay the whole day.

About a mile away from the track towards the interstate is Souvenir Row.  That is where I get all my racing souvenirs because it is cheaper then buying them at the track.  There are also hot showers for anyone camping out in one of the many campgrounds around the track.

The closest motels and eating places are in Anniston/Oxford which is about 25 miles north of the speedway.

If you get a chance while you are there, tour the International Motorsports Hall of Fame.  It has many interesting things in it!  I hope you enjoy your trip there!
